Dylan Thomas

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I Fail at Keeping a Blog

It's already at the end of February and I haven't posted on this site once during the entire month... which has now changed. I don't understand why I keep feeling the need to limit myself. I wanted to change direction of this blog, but why does a blog need direction? Why can't it just be a form of expression and communication, you know, as it was meant to be. My new goal is to try and post at least three times a week, whether that's with photos, poems, stories, random rants, or anything else I feel like, the end result will always be amazing because it will be an extension of myself and my thoughts. So for now lets say that I've found new motivation and insight and I plan on letting them take me where they will.

Hayley's Birthday

Today was and for the next few minutes still is my sisters 27th birthday. It's strange how fast time flies and how even after all these years I still look at her the same way I did when I was just a stupid kid poking fun at her and laughing on the playground while she was making something of herself; something she is still doing as a licensed attorney in the LA area.
I think now would be a perfect time to talk about her sense of style. Now of my family, I am definitely the most fashion conscious and fashion forward (some of my sisters like to think they are... but they're not) though my siblings do have wonderful sense's of personal style which is something I will push over and over again on this blog. For example, my sister Hayley has an incredible beach style. She's hip, she's cool, she's calm, and she HAS style. I saw her a few days ago in California as we prepared for the birth of our new niece, Abygail Grace Maxson, and I noticed her color combinations of brown, salmon, white and a pair of denim jeans the way they were meant to look. I couldn't believe that I had never noticed it before. That I had thought, for whatever reason, that the fashion gods had only given me a sense of style and an eye for fashion. But lo-and behold my young, professional sister bringing this color combo into the mix so well, so effortlessly and with the fabric that hung the way it was supposed to.
This made me think- which isn't that hard to do, but still- and I realized that this combinations could really work on anyone and the cut and fabric should come this way for everyone. So my style tips for this day on this occasion include the following:

1. Find your PERSONAL style and follow it. This may take weeks, months or even years, but its worth it for you to show everyone who you are before they even meet you.
2. Experiment with color combinations and patterns. Something may come out wrong & some things may really come out wrong, but it will push you in the right direction until you know what is an isn't your taste and what is and what isn't a funky cool look.
3. Always stay true to yourself. My sister has always been the person I described and she's held true to that & it has paid off in innumerable ways.
& 4. Have fun with your clothes and with your life, make every item and extension of your self, your mood, your idea, whatever. Just make it you.

New Beginnings

I've decided to change direction of this blog. I've garnered inspiration from "The Sartorialist," "Vogue," "GQ," "The New York Times," my favorite books, my photography, my family, the new year/new decade and an innumerable amount of other sources. I want to spend my next few years documenting my time at Brown, grad school and beyond, by posting pictures of myself, my friends, my fashion, my interests, my family, my art & activities, but more than anything, I want to show the styles & talents of my friends and classmates at Brown. I'm excited to do this & I'm excited what the future has in store for my life. Get ready, because this is going to be an interesting adventure.

Before it Breaks

Around here, its the hardest time of year
Waking up, the day's are even gone
Through the collar of my coat
Lord help me, I cannot help the cold
The rain drops sting my eyes, I keep them closed

But I'm feeling no pain, I'm a little lonely
And my quietest friend, the moonlight, have I let you in?

Say it ain't so, say I'm happy again
Say it's over, say I'm dreaming
Say I'm better than you left me
Say you're sorry, I can take it
Say you'll wait, say you won't
Say you love me, say you don't
I can make my own mistakes
Let it bend before it breaks

I'm alright, don't I always seem to be?
Aren't I swinging on the stars? Don't I wear them on my sleeves?
Went looking for a crossroads, it happens every day
And whichever way you turn, I'm gonna turn the other way

Say it's over, say I'm dreaming
Say i'm better than you left me
Say you're sorry, I can take it
Say you'll wait, say you won't
Say you love me, say you don't
I can make my own mistakes
Let it bend before it breaks

Say it's over, say I'm dreaming
Say I'm better than you left me
Say you're sorry, I can take it
Say you'll wait, say you won't
Say you love me, say you don't
I can make my own mistakes
Let it bend before it breaks
